Garden Lattice
This quilt, may be the very first actual purchased quilt pattern that I ever attempted to make. Prior to Garden Lattice, I had drafted all of my projects with graph paper – oh how things have changed.
I had this layer cake, which I just loved called Rose Whispers, it was bright, fun and full of florals.
It was also one of the first scrappy style quilts and I spent hours meticulously laying it all out to ensure that colors were balanced and didn’t have similar blocks touching. There were times I wanted to just give up.
The technique to make each square was new and I struggled to get things perfect, not that anyone else would be able to tell (except Mr. Sunflower Hollow – he searches for those things on purpose!)
This was also around the time that I learned, a quilt is “not a quilt” without 3 layers, a front, back and something in the middle. Yep, for 25+ years, all my quilts were *just* blankets! (the horror – eye roll to the quilt police!)
It was also my first time using my long arm, and really trying to free-motion quilt – and it’s rough. But it’s loved and used and no one pays any attention to those little imperfections!
