Country Pastimes

Using a panel as a foundation for a quilt is a great way to maximize time! Panels add a great visual, since they are usually a large design.

For this quilt, I started with the panel, choose colors and textures that represented the giftee and then went to work with my trusty mechanical pencil and graph paper to draft out a design idea.

By creating several different elements within the borders, it give the quilt some motion (and maybe a little chaos in this case). Each layer represents something to do with hunting/fishing activities that we love to partake in.

From the fabrics: camoflauge, fishing, green for grass and trees, blue for water, hunter orange (ever important to be safe while recreating).

Some of elements that were intentially added to represent the overall theme of the quilt: bear paw blocks for each corner, flying geese “arrows”, the pop of hunter orange in the centers of each line of arrows.

Backed with very rustic navy/green flannel (my favorite kind of backing!).
