Sunflower Hollow Quilting

Arrow to the Woods

There is something really satisfying about trying a new technique. I’m not sure if it’s my love of learning or being challenged that is fulfilled by newness.

I found a pattern I wanted to try online for these arrowheads – it was free and included a template. In my stash, I had the border fabric, but no plan for it and not much to coordinate — off to shop I went. I scoured the interwebs to support smaller online shops that were run on Etsy and found various lines or pieces of fabric lines that I liked. Reds, blacks, grays, and all in a woodland theme. In my head – it was perfect.

Actually done – beyond perfect. A challenge – one of the first times I’d sewn an entire project that required angles – and laying those out was a breeze. Sewing them together took a whole other level of precision.

Figuring out how to measure and account for the 1/4″ seam allowance and getting the points to line up was a bit of fun – but one of those things that the effort is worth the reward.

Ironically, on an outing with “Granny Sunflower Hollow” (aka: my mom), we found a perfect flannel that matched the theme of this quilt to the T – gray, with red, white stripes, and little bears!! For the quilting, I chose to do a quick all over stipple design – mostly because I can whip through that pretty quickly and sometimes, I just decide that the days agenda is to finish a project, competely.
