All American Picnic

Red, white and blue – classic patriotic colors and a flag inspired picnic quilt, just screams summer.

Growing up, I spent a lot (A LOT) of time with my grandparents. You’ll probably see many things here that remind me of them in some way or another. Flags, Fourth of July, summer picnics, and patriotism some of Pa’s favorites. He was very proud to have served our country in the Navy, as a signalman stationed at Pearl Harbor. It was tradition to make a batch of homemade vanilla ice cream, BBQ, attend a parade and just celebrate being in the land of the free.

Putting together this flag inspired picnic quilt, is just another small reminder of those days.

Traditional piecing, 1/4″ seams and simple square patchwork make up this quilt. A variety of red, white and blue scraps from my stash were used. Designer fabrics, “cheap” fabrics, it didn’t matter, just as long as they were red, white and blue.

The layout for the pattern is available in a pre-cut quilt kit and includes the binding and border fabrics. Eventually will be added to the patterns in the shop.
