I Spy, with My Little Eye

I Spy quilts are a great scrap-buster project. Take any and every kind of scrap – and you’ve got a fun keep the littles busy activity for hours.

When I reintroduced myself to quilting afer the pandemic, I spluge purchased “sale” fabric more often that one should probably do that. I ended up with several charm packs – but usually only one of each.

Random Rainbow Charm pack, enters the chat…that I didn’t know what to do with, until one day I said to myself, “you need to make a quilt for the Texas kiddos”. I set out to collect some novelty prints as, I after our last house move, I had purged many of the things I purchased when my kids were tiny, because well teenagers don’t love rubber duckies and cartoon unicorns anymore – *gasp, those jerks! and a plan was hatched.

Using a variety of 5″ squares, this fun I Spy quilty gift for my little neices & nephew in Texas was born. Each square is unique, there are no duplicates here. Of course, those rainbow squares were laid out meticulously so that they stayed in a sort of ROYGBIV order, from top to bottom. We’ve got everything from sports teams to princesses, pets, and veggies.

I Spy quilts are a great way to use up scraps, practice that accurate 1/4″ seam and give kiddos (and maybe even adults) something to do that doesn’t involve a screen. These make great gifts full of love, laughter and fun!
